Your mission

Under the supervision of the Mechanical Department Head of the Goa Glass Fibre Limited (GGFL) plant in Goa, ensure availability of all equipment to run the plant, as per the set targets, so that company objectives are met. Lead the team in shifts, guide and motivate the team members. 

Your profile

  • You hold a diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Required experience: 4-5 years in the continuous process industry
  • Languages: English, Hindi, Konkani and Marathi
  • You have leadership, with supervisory skills as well as interpersonal skills. You are able to manage conflicts.
  • You are an effective learner.

Your role and responsibilities

  • Achieve all operating tasks of Mechanical shift functions. 
  • Act as an interface with all functions / shift leaders for smooth & trouble free operation of the plant.
  • Ensure immediate response and manpower deployment to break down jobs & ensure minimum downtime.
  • Perform detailed shift logging & allocation of pending jobs as per previous shift reports in consultation with outgoing Reliever /Shift Engineer – scrutinize operator’s log – Utilities, Technicians, Machining.
  • Raise work permits, Issue material from Main stores.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance / checklist / pending job activities.
  • Receive breakdown calls / job requests & arrange for attending the same as per priority in consultation with shift (Shift Engineer) leader 
  • Ensure that proper & complete feedback is provided to functional engineers / Sr. engineers / section head on the problems / breakdowns found during shift & make sure suitable action is taken.
  • Supervise & guide the team members (Technicians / contracting personnel) in the matter / manner of carrying out shift jobs / activities.
  • Identify spares & consumables for shift maintenance activities, raise stores requisition note for the same and secure approval of Engineer / Sr. engineer / section head for running / planned jobs.
  • Manage teams in shifts - to ensure manpower availability in shifts by judicious management of leaves & shift changes etc.
  • Recommend leaves / shift change requests of team members for sanction by concerned Engineer / sanctioning authority.
  • Ensure work is carried out in a safe manner by following all safety procedures & norms – by proper implementation of work permit systems & safety /environmental procedures in accordance with IMS.
  • Be accountable for the tool room & shop floor spares & consumables and workshop equipment and accessories.
  • Assist for all new equipment inputs and implement new projects.
  • Propose and implement improvements programmes, 5s, Kaizens particularly those related to equipment downtime decrease, reduction of your department costs, safety and environment respect.
  • Develop a team spirit, oriented towards continuous improvement, particularly those related to waste reduction, discipline following instructions and specifications, product quality, cost reduction. Promote communication and social dialog.
  • Ensure that all members of your team have needed competencies for their job, and/or put in place with HR help personal development and training programmes to reach this goal.
  • Work in partnership with other GGFL functions
  • Maintain 5S in all shops and equipment under your responsibility in good working, safe and clean conditions
  • Promote and get a safe environment in your department. Meet those objectives during the year.
  • Promote and get a strict respect of Indian laws, GGFL rules and instructions and ISO / IMS instructions.
  • Make sure persons and equipment under your responsibility are safe and secured.
